John Wynne
Gifted traditional musicians John Wynne, from Roscommon town and John McEvoy will appear in The Passionfruit Theatre on Friday, February 20, for a special concert of Irish traditional music with Jacinta McEvoy on hand to help provide what will be a very special night of music. "Pride of the West" is the title of their latest CD, which features the flute and fiddle music of North Connacht. The tunes come mainly from the Sligo/Roscommon repertoire, with unusual versions of some well known local tunes, as well as a couple of new compositions thrown into the mix. Arty McGlynn on guitars, and John Mc Evoy"s son Paddy, add their considerable talents to the recording also. Both musicians have county Roscommon roots, and both have extensive recording and touring careers under their belts. John Wynne released a solo CD "With Every Breath" in 2000. He has recorded two albums, and toured with the band "Providence". John also played on, and produced "The Flute Players of Roscommon" CD. John McEvoy released his solo CD "Returning" in 1998 and recorded and toured with the groups Bakerswell, Kelp and Providence. In 2004, he released "The Kilmore Fancy" with his sister, Catherine McEvoy, on flute. The Westmeath Independent caught up with John Wynne for a chat last week. First memory?
