Showcasing her natural flair for fashion and Gallic chic, Delilah, who is much sought after as a stylist for fashion shows, shots and individual consultations all over the west and midlands, is certainly the person in the know to find out what the hottest trends on the rails of shops of the New Year. Speaking to Westmeath Independent recently, Delilah detailed the must-have pieces for any self-respecting fashionista to update your wardrobe with some of the key looks for the year ahead. 1 - The autumn/winter 2011 runways showed some beautiful trends, such as velvet and especially red velvet. This red velvet jacket from Savida (pictured below) is a perfect item to keep you stylish and warm in January. Wear it over your smart trousers and blouse for work, or over your favorite little black dress for any party or glamourous functions this winter. 2 - Fur was everywhere in the 2011 winter collections. With so many fur colours and fur details, this is certainly a trend that can be incorporated easily in your wardrobe, with cuffs, purses, shoes and skirts all featuring fur or, in most cases fake fur. Grab a pair of faux fur mittens for an easy, practical way to introduce it into your wardrobes without overdoing it. 3 - Layering is hot this winter. When you layer well it will look very elegant and comfortable. The best way for a great layering look according to Delilah is to choose thin layers first and finish of with thicker fabrics. For a great casual look, team an oversized shirt worn over leggings and boots. Layer it with a aviator sleeveless jacket and an oversized snood for an up-to-date look while also staying snug! 4 - Oversized knitted scarves are a must in your wardrobe for the months ahead. As well as being comfortable and looking fantastic, they'll keep you warm through the many cold days ahead. The wool cap will also be a staple for 2011. Team it with almost everything from skinny jeans to shift dresses and shorts. 5 - Animal patterns and tweeds will continue as strong trends in the New Year with coats, dresses, or shoes all bearing leopard prints adornments or grey tweeds. Wear head to toe animal prints or try introducing the trend with some plainer pieces for a splash of colour! For instance, incorporate the trend by teaming a black shift dress with leopard print shoes or animal print short jacket. For your New Year parties and functions, a tweed skirt or dress inspired by the timeless elegance of Chanel would be perfect. Team this cute skirt with a sequinned top and pearl bracelet and statement heels for a fantastic start to 2011!
