Two thefts on Christmas Day reported to Garda in Athlone
The thefts of a laptop and a bicycle in Athlone late on Christmas Day were reported to the Gardai - but both of the stolen items have since been recovered.
One of the incidents involved a burglary at a house in Brawny Crescent after 10pm on Christmas night.
Sergeant Andrew Haran told the Westmeath Independent that a laptop was taken from the house but was subsequently found, not too far away, on the Greenway.
Also, in the early evening on Christmas Day, a bicycle which had been a Christmas present was stolen from the Beechville area of Athlone. The theft was reported, but the owner recovered the bicycle the following afternoon.
Sergeant Haran said the Gardai were called to some domestic incidents over the last few days but that, overall, it had been a relatively quiet Christmas on the crime front.
