Council to host civic reception for victorious Westmeath footballers

Westmeath County Council is set to approve a recommendation to hold a civic reception for the county's senior footballers after their memorable victory in the first-ever Tailteann Cup final.

Jack Cooney's side defeated Laois, Carlow and Offaly en route to the final against Cavan on July 9.

Goals from Lorcan Dolan and Kieran Martin proved crucial as the Lake County claimed the silverware at Croke Park on a 2-14 to 1-13 scoreline.

At the July monthly meeting of Westmeath County Council, which takes place on Monday next, July 25, the councillors are likely to approve a recommendation "That Westmeath County Council host a Civic Reception for the Westmeath Senior Football Team to mark their recent success in winning the Tailteann Cup."

The recommendation to host the civic reception came from the council's Corporate Policy Group.
