€4,000 raised in Monksland for work of Brain Tumour Ireland

Monksland and District Women’s Group raised €4,000 for Brain Tumour Ireland (BTI) at a fundraising event which was held to coincide with International Women's Day last month.

The event was held in Monksland Community Centre which was festooned with decorations for what was a very special and memorable occasion attended by over 100 members of the local community. The fundraising initiative was enthusiastically embraced by all sections of the community in memory of loved ones.

A host of local volunteers organised a dinner for all attendees, which was followed by a bumper raffle with prizes sponsored by the business community and individuals, all of which were much appreciated.

Brain Tumour Ireland aims to provide information and support for brain tumour patients and their families as well as advocating for Ireland to be a world leader in brain tumour research, diagnosis, treatment and care. BTI runs two online support groups, one for patients and one for family members or carers.

Fiona Keegan, CEO of Brain Tumour Ireland attended Monksland Community Centre for the presentation of the cheque for €4,000 from the proceeds of the event.

Explaining the work of Brain Tumour Ireland, Fiona Keegan told the fundraising gathering that the organisation provides "support and services" for brain tumour patients and their families as well as to parents who have a child diagnosed with a brain tumour.

"As an organisation with no State funding, the funds raised by the Monksland and District Women's Group will go such a long way towards provision of those services. We are so grateful to this amazing group for supporting the work of Brain Tumour Ireland" she added.
