The Six Marys set for local stage

“The most interesting review of my play was written by the director of The Whale Theatre in Greystones,” Jean Farrell explains of her play The Six Marys.

“Ross McParland wrote: 'A truly joyous and wryly subversive show, Jean Farrell has tapped into some universal truths here that resonate far beyond Catholic Ireland. This is Father Ted from a female perspective, and, like that much-loved sitcom, manages to find the warmth in some chilling corners of living under the thumb of the church. Most importantly, The Six Marys is very, very funny which may explain seven full houses in The Whale Theatre.’,” Jean says.

During Easter week the evenings will be bright and long. Why not come along to see this play, with friends. You will be glad you did!

‘The Six Marys’ is written and narrated by Jean Farrell, with supporting actress/singer Catherine Gallagher. It is being performed in Kiltoom Hall, Ballybay, on April 12 and 13 at 8pm.

No booking necessary but arrive early.

Tickets are available at the door at €12 each.

Jean says: “In the play I read from diaries. These tell the stories of six girls christened Mary, spanning six decades of their lives.

“The 1950s diaries tell of nuns, processions, gym slips and much more. The 1960s diaries are about their search for Mr. Wonderful. In the 1970s diaries the Marys begin married life.

“Throughout the following decades the friends meet regularly. The Marys discuss the true realities of married life, rearing babies, children, teenagers and then life, when all have left home,” she explained.

The Six Marys play has been greatly enjoyed by audiences, in more than 100 theatres, all over Ireland and in the UK. It is very funny, yet poignant. Many people have come to see it again and again.

Ballybay is just beyond the turn for Hodson Bay Hotel, on the Roscommon Road – less than 6km from town.
