Swan rescued by local man after landing in Dunnes car park

A swan was taken to safety after making a surprise landing in the Dunnes Stores car park in Montree, Athlone, on Sunday evening.

Coosan man Dermot McEntegart brought the swan to Jim's Field, across from Assumption Road, so that it could safely take flight again after his daughter Sarah spotted the bird outside Dunnes.

The swan had landed in a nearby garden, possibly after becoming disoriented. Sarah said that the swan was running around the car park but was unable to take flight from the ground.

“The swan was sitting in a puddle when I arrived and I was afraid it would run onto the road,” she said.

Luckily, the swan wasn't injured following its unusual landing, and took off from Jim's Field after being released by Dermot.
