Mayor of Athlone Moate Municipal District Cllr Louise Heavin together with her council colleagues, members of Athlone Tidy Towns and other community representatives were on hand to honour the winners of the Athlone Tidy Towns Garden and Estate competition awards in the Shamrock Lodge Hotel last Wednesday night.
For a third year in a row, Athlone Tidy Towns celebrated gold medal success in the SuperValu National Tidy Towns Competition, coming in third place in the county with 361 points, jump of 14 from last year.
The town was only 15 points off the overall winners, Abbeyleix, which won the much coveted Ireland's Tidiest Town title.
The achievement was marked with competitors and winners of Athlone Tidy Towns Garden & Estate Competition.
