Christmas Q&A: Boidu Sayeh

Rosemount man and Westmeath footballer Boidu Sayeh is well-known for his sporting achievements.

Born in Liberia and raised in Westmeath from the age of eight, Boidu has spoken in public on many occasions about diversity, inclusion and the benefits of sport.

What is the build-up to Christmas like for you?

The Christmas build up for me is pretty chilled. I like to keep in touch with my family back home in Liberia, and mostly trying to figure out what I’m going to get people for Christmas Day.

How and where will you spend Christmas this year?

I will be spending the Christmas in Rosemount this year. I was very fortunate last year that I got to spend it in Liberia on the beach, so a bit of a change this year.

What does the Christmas season mean to you?

It’s a very special time of the year being with family, spending quality time together and chatting with mates that I haven’t seen much all year.

Who is your Christmas hero?

My Christmas hero would have to be my granny; we all love going over to her house on Christmas Eve, the whole family eating, playing games and just having a good time.

What are you thankful for this year?

I’m very thankful that the year that went past has been one of the most enjoyable year. I've been to Kenya, Liberia, and New York and I’ve come back in one piece.

What's your favourite Christmas memory from times past?

My favourite Christmas memory was my very first Christmas in Ireland. Just seeing how it is celebrated here compared to Liberia was a huge experience and a massive cultural shock.

What's your best loved Christmas tradition?

Has to be doing Kris Kindle with the full family and everyone meeting at granny’s to give their gifts.

Favourite Christmas song or movie?

My favourite move is Elf, a classic.

How will you ring in the New Year?

Hope to live every day with a smile, just being grateful for what I have.

What's your big hope for 2024?

My big hope for 2024 is that Kru Fitness with my cousin Dylan kicks off.
