Moate-based choir raises €6k for three worthy charities
Members of An Cór Lár Tíre, a community choir in Moate, were delighted to present the proceeds of €6,000 raised from their inaugural concert in December to three charities recently.
The choir raised the impressive figure as a result of a sold-out concert in Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Coosan, last year. Cheques for €2,500 were presented to farm accident support network, Embrace FARM, and Barnardos Athlone respectively whilst Moate St Vincent de Paul received €1,000.
Following its establishment in September 2023 by Giselle Foley and Oisín Johnston, the choir now has over 110 members from across the midlands. It is a non-profit organisation with all proceeds from performances going to worthy charities.
With rehearsals taking place every two weeks, the choir serves as a vital social pillar within the community. The choir is looking to build on the success of its Christmas performance with a summer concert. Further details will be announced closer to the time via An Cór Lár Tíre's social media accounts.
Ms Foley has been the musical director of St Mary's parish choir in Athlone since 1995 and since joining the staff of MCS she has assisted with the school choirs. The long-standing musical director became the director of both student choirs and established a staff choir in 2017.
The choir is actively recruiting for males to join the baritone section. No previous experience is necessary to join the choir. Rehearsals are held in the Carmelite Pastoral Centre in Moate. For more information follow An Cór Lár Tíre on Facebook.
