Ireland's big game to be shown live in Athlone square

A big screen has been erected in Athlone's John Count McCormack Square (formerly the Civic Square) to show Euro 2016 games, including Ireland's crucial clash against Sweden at 5pm today.

The screen has been set up in recent days to coincide with Ireland's third-ever appearance at the championships.

Athlone Chamber of Commerce has supported the placement of the big screen in the centre of town.

In a brief statement, Chamber President John McGrath said the screen was being set up 'on a trial basis' with a view to showing other live sporting and entertainment events in the future.

The screenings are family friendly and alcohol free. All are welcome.
