Man's body recovered from Shannon

A man's body was recovered from the River Shannon yesterday (Tuesday).

Members of Athlone Sub Aqua Club, along with SAR divers from Roscommon Sub Aqua Club carried out an underwater search after being called in to assist in the ongoing search for a local man who had been missing since Friday.

A ten-diver strong search team and a surface search boat crew participated in the search as well as another boat with side scan survey equipment.

A man's body was recovered a short time after the search began.

The search in the river was carried out as part on an ongoing search for missing man Jim Doyle, who had been last seen on Friday.

Athlone Sub Aqua Club thanked their volunteer members for assembling at such short notice to assist in the search.

“Athlone Sub Aqua Club would also like to take this opportunity to extend their condolences to the family and friends of the deceased – rest in peace,” the club said in a statement.
