Participants of last year's Operation Transformation in Moore

Moore Operation Transformation off to a flyer!

TO coincide with the 11th series of RTE’s Operation Transformation, members of the local community in South Roscommon are being invited to avail of health and wellbeing ‘Talks & Walks’ at Padraig Pearses GAA Club.
The Moore Operation Tranformation programme launched on Monday, and will run each Monday from 7 to 9pm. The opening night saw a huge crowd in attendance.
Participation last year was strong, and a programme of physical activities was sustained right throughout the year by the ‘Moore Movers’ as a result.
Members reported benefits such as increased mobility, reduced joint pain, lower blood pressure, improved cholesterol results and a reduction in medications as well as improved overall wellbeing, better mental health and increased fitness and weight loss.
This year, with the support of Roscommon Sports Partnership, voluntary coordinator Laura Tully has designed a programme of education, motivation and support that includes a weekly walking programme suitable for all abilities.
The programme aims to improve health, fitness and wellness and combat the impact that ageing has on the body and health as much as possible.
The Irish Heart Foundation will be in attendance next Monday, January 15, from 2–9pm to provide free blood pressure measurements.
The Marie Keating Foundation will attend on January 22 to educate members about reducing the risk of cancer. Expert speakers will attend to provide workshops each week ahead of the exercise programme.
In addition, Roscommon Sports Partnership and Healthy Ireland are supporting a unique six-week 'Getting Men Active Now' programme for the area which has been created specifically for men over the age of 40.
This programme will be delivered by a team of experts from True Fitness each Thursday evening starting tomorrow, January 11.
Health workshops will be delivered by experts where members are taught in simple and practical terms everything they need to know to achieve long term health and wellness.
Members will be supported throughout with exercise and stretching training sessions, nutrition talks and a variety of health education workshops that are complete specific to the individual.
Weekly meal plans and advice are provided as well as home based exercise sessions, personalised assessments and exercise advice where necessary for any injuries or clinical conditions.
Some 20 places are available on this exclusive programme and applications are via Laura Tully. Check out the Moore Movers Facebook page for further information.
A community Operation Transformation walk will take place at 11am on Saturday  at Padraig Pearses walking track. All are welcome.
