Massive scratch card win for Westmeath husband and wife

A lucky Westmeath family told how they were ‘absolutely dumbfounded’ after they scratched their way to a pre-Christmas €200,000 fortune on a National Lottery scratch card.

Speaking after they received their cheque for €200,000 in National Lottery offices in Dublin, the Westmeath family revealed news of their incredible win has yet to hit home:

Sitting in the National Lottery winners’ room, the lucky husband and wife explained how they reacted to their huge scratch card win, which is just on time for Chritmas:

“We buy a scratch card every week and scratch it at home for a bit of craic. We’ve had nice little wins here and there but you never expect to win a sum like this!

“When we saw the €200,000 symbol appear on the top of the scratch card, my wife and I just stared at each other in complete and utter shock – we just assumed that there had to be a mistake. We got on the phone straight away and the National Lottery told us that we had won the top prize. We’ve been doing so much jumping around since, I don’t think our feet have touched the ground yet,” said the winning husband.

He added: “We haven’t had the time to even think about what we’re going to do with our prize. We’ll have to take some time out and think about what to do with it but we have a few bills and loans to pay off so the money will definitely take some of the pressure off us.”

The lucky €10 scratch card was sold at Millie Walsh’s store on Dublin Bridge in Mullingar. The National Lottery have also confirmed that there are still two top prizes of €200,000 remaining on the popular All Cash Spectacular scratch card.

Owner of the lucky store, Millie Walsh said: “The entire community is absolutely buzzing and there is great talk among the locals as to who the winners could be. We have been inundated in the shop with neighbours and well-wishers who are thrilled to hear that it is a local family who have won this incredible scratch card prize.

“Whoever they may be, the whole community are completely behind them and we wish them all the best with their massive win,” he said.
