Old school buildings inspire local artist's new exhibition

A new art exhibition entitled 'An Bhfúil cead agam dul go dhí an Leathreas?’ will be launched in Ballinasloe on Tuesday next (February 26).

This collection of paintings is the work of South Roscommon artist Fiona Moore, who was inspired by the structure of the old two-classroom school buildings and the human relationship with these buildings.

Fiona developed the paintings from studio and site-based studies. Starting out with a realistic image, she then became more playful with mark-making and collage, ultimately producing pieces that reference the old school buildings in our landscape and embrace the human relationship with the buildings.

A graduate of Galway Mayo Institute Technology, Fiona works with children and teachers in national schools, preschools and youth groups, creating art projects and art lesson plans for children to explore in the medium of paint.

Her ‘An Bhfúil cead agam dul go dhí an Leathreas?’ exhibition will be launched in the The Church Gallery of Ballinasloe Library at 6pm on Tuesday, and all are welcome to attend. It will be officially launched by South Roscommon councillor John Naughten.

Fiona said she was "delighted to have this opportunity to showcase my artwork in the Church Gallery of Ballinasloe Library".

Members of the public,  students, and their teachers are welcome to visit the exhibition, and talks by the artist for students and teachers can be organised by prior arrangement. Contact the artist at: www.fmoore100@gmail.com
