Teams sought for Ballinasloe's Relay for Life

Ballinasloe's Relay for Life, an Irish Cancer Society initiative, is calling on all groups, societies and individuals to gather a team together and join in the fight against cancer. Relay for Life, a 24-hour marathon project will take place in the old Tesco building on Saturday and Sunday, August 11 and 12 next to highlight cancer awareness. Teams are the backbone of Relay for Life. They provide the moral support, act as leaders during the event and raise much needed funds for the Irish Cancer Society initiative. Once a team is registered, they will receive all the information required including ideas on how to raise money and what the team are required to do during the event itself. The project is based on the premise that every team registered will hold their own individual fundraising events in the lead up to the Relay for Life weekend. The teams will also set up a stall in the old Tesco building for the 24-hour period where they can continue to raise money. All funds raised by each team will go into the Relay for Life fund where it will be distributed by the Irish Cancer Society among many cancer care initiatives throughout the Galway region. One member of each team must walk or run on the track for the entire 24-hour period. It is recommended that a team should consist of between 10 and 15 members, but of course where teamwork is involved, the more members you have, the more fun it is and the less walking you'll have to do yourself! It's time to reactivate your twitter account, update your facebook profile, take your runners out of the attic and get involved in the race against the killer disease. Call all your friends, chat to your neighbours and see what you can do to raise money for those who need it most.
