Sheraton Athlone guests raise whopping €20,000 for UNICEF

Contributions from guests at the Sheraton Athlone Hotel has helped raise €20,000 for UNICEF's Check Out Fund for children. Check Out for Children is an alliance between UNICEF and The Sheraton Athlone Hotel's parent company Starwood Hotels and Resorts. The Sheraton Athlone Hotel expressed its delight at having helped to contribute such a large amount of money which will provide immunisation and education for children. It's one of UNICEF's longest standing and most successful partnerships. Check Out for Children is simple and effective as guests at Starwood Hotels, including the Sheraton Athlone Hotel, are invited to add €1 when they check out at the end of their stay. From the partnership launch in November 1995 to 2011, guests at participating Starwood hotels donated US$25 million to UNICEF and enabled UNICEF to immunise 1 million children against deadly diseases. In the same period, €20,000 was donated in Athlone Since September 2011 UNICEF and Starwood are working together to help ensure that every child around the world can access a quality education. Donations from The Sheraton Athlone Hotel guests go towards interventions such as building and improving schools, training teachers, supplying school equipment and campaigning to ensure children stay in school. "It is fantastic that we can make such a contribution to a great cause. Guests can really take a strong sense of moral and ethical comfort by knowing that when they stay here at the Sheraton Athlone Hotel, that not only do they get to experience the quality which is guaranteed with The Sheraton brand, but also help to make a difference globally with the health and education of children world wide," said Johnny O'Sullivan, General Manager at the Sheraton Athlone He added: "We sincerely thank all of our guests over the years for helping to grow this donation and we hope to contribute more and more each year as our guests return to the Sheraton Athlone."
