Day-old puppy found abandoned

This tiny puppy, which can fit in the palm of your hand, was found abandoned in the Four Roads area of Roscommon at the weekend.

A woman was out walking with her child and her Jack Russell dog when she came across a bag at the side of the road. The Jack Russell stopped at the bag and began crying and refused to move. When the woman opened the bag she discovered this newborn puppy and phoned the Athlone Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).

An ASPCA volunteer went out to Four Roads and took the puppy home and has been keeping it warm and feeding it since.

ASPCA Inspector Paul McCormack said he suspected the puppy was only about a day old when it was abandoned and due to its size is some form of terrier. He has appealed for anyone with any information regarding the dumping of the puppy at the side of the road to contact the ASPCA on 087 6178871.
