A new collection of artwork by nine local children was unveiled at Moate library last week.

The work was created by children from schools including Baylin National School, the Mercy Convent NS in Moate and St Manchan's NS in Tubber.

The budding artists recently completed a seven-week course with Anja Sammon of Moate's Sammon School of Art, and their work went on display at the library on Tuesday, October 27.

"The group first made individual collages by drawing in pastel chalks and marbling," explained Anja. "We then looked at old-fashioned silhouettes from Victorian times and at some book illustrations on fairy tales, and the kids designed their own silhouette images of their favourite fairy tale characters.

"These were cut out and we joined the pictures into groups of three. They are now on permanent display in the children's book section at Moate library."

The children who participated were: Alison and Glenn Carolan, Izzy Hodder, Hannah McCormack, Tara Roland, Jennifer Dolan, Aoife Murray, Sarah Murray and Lorna Boland.
