Celebrity chef signs copies of her new book in Athlone

Celebrity chef Tamasin Day-Lewis was in Athlone to sign copies of her new cookbook on Monday.

The sister of actor Daniel Day-Lewis autographed copies of the book 'Supper for a Song' during an appearance at the Left Bank Bistro.

The restaurant is usually closed on Mondays but an exception was made on this occasion, as diners sampled dishes which were created from recipes in Ms Day-Lewis's book.

The author writes for publications such as the Daily Telegraph, Vogue and Vanity Fair. Her range of cookbooks includes 'Tamasin's Kitchen Classics' and 'West of Ireland Summers: Recipes and Memories from an Irish Childhood.'

With the present economic climate in mind, Ms Day-Lewis's new book - 'Supper for a Song' - places an emphasis on thrifty recipes.

One of the proprietors of the Left Bank Bistro, Mary McCullagh, said the London-based author frequently called into the local restaurant during her trips to Ireland, and that Monday's event was organised as a result of those visits.

She commented that there had been a great response to the event locally.

"People were only too happy to try something different on a damp November night," she said.
