Second post mortem in Navan
The Garda Superintendent leading the Martin O'Gorman murder investigation in Meath has confirmed that a second post mortem on the Athlone man's remains will be carried out later this week at the behest of legal representatives, representing some of those questioned in relation to the death. This follows the arrests of three young people last week, two directly in relation to the Battery Road native's murder and a third, detained in connection with information relevant to the investigation. All three were later released without charge and a file will be submitted to Director of Public Prosecutions. "There will be a second independent post-mortem carried out this week," Supt Michael Devine from Navan Garda Station confirmed. "It's the request of some of those questioned in relation to the matter." The garda chief explained that they are happy with how their investigation is progressing and said there may be may be further arrests before the file is submitted to the DPP, hopefully sometime towards the middle of August. "We have made successful progress and we are happy with how the investigation has gone," he said. "We are just awaiting confirmation of the second post-mortem at this stage. We have to go through this process, we are trying to do it as swiftly as possible" "I think the family have been very understanding, it's a very difficult time for them. They are the victims in all this," he added. Last Wednesday, two male teenagers, a juvenile aged 16 and another aged 18 were arrested in connection with the murder. They were brought to Navan and Kells Garda Stations for questioning and were released without charge on Thursday afternoon. Shortly before the pair were let go, a third man, aged 19, was arrested in connection with information relevant to the murder investigation and taken to Kells Garda Station. He was released without charge on Thursday night. Officers are currently working on preparing a file for the DPP in relation to the case.
