Athlone CC staff and students to raise funds with marathon event

Staff and students of Athlone Community College are running a marathon in relay form this Saturday (October 5) in order to raise money for the school.

Clonbonny man Michael Macken (a parent of two ACC students) ran the Dublin City Marathon for the benefit of Athlone Community College in 2012. The staff and pupils got behind Michael and raised a large amount of sponsorship for him.

Michael will run the Dublin City Marathon again this year (it takes place on October 28), but in addition, the staff and students will run their ‘own marathon’ in a relay event in AIT on 5th October.

This event is being organised by the Athlone Community College Parents Association and will take place on Saturday morning in AIT.  Students (who will be divided up into teams) will run the 26 miles in relay form, along with many of the teachers running half marathon lengths.

The students in the school are raising sponsorship for the event for themselves and their classmates who are participating; and for Michael running the Dublin City Marathon. The funds raised will go to the Community College Parents Association.

Many businesses have gotten behind this great event sponsoring food, drinks, water bottles, some prizes for participants and students etc.

The Community College Parents Association acknowledges the support of the following businesses: Fitzone, Trizone,  Sasta, Click, Supervalu, Elverys, Ganly’s, Athlone City Photography, Trizone, Papa John's Pizza, Seery's of Athlone, Dunnes Stores, Ciaran Mannion & Co, Pure Athlete & the Hodson Bay Hotel.

Everyone is welcome to come along to cheer on the kids on Saturday morning in AIT.
