The council is hoping to turn the exterior of Athlone Castle green for St Patrick's Day - but anyone wishing to explore the interior of the landmark attraction will be able to do so for a special price during the holiday weekend.

Athlone Art and Heritage is running a special offer at Athlone Castle Visitor Centre for St Patrick's Weekend.

This Saturday, Sunday and Monday (March 15-17) there will be free admission for everyone under 15, with all other admissions priced €4.

The Castle will open as normal - Sat 11-5, Sun 12-5 and Mon 11-5 - with last admission at 4pm.
