Pack proves decisive for Buccaneers

Buccaneers travelled to Co. Clare and won what was a battle of the packs on a wet dirty day.

Pitted against a big Scariff pack Buccs had to pull out all the stops and, in what was a great warm up for the crunch match next Sunday against Sligo, Buccs kept the home side scoreless mostly through some outstanding tackling by Dooley, Corbett and Digby.

No. 8 Connaughton scored two tries in the first half, one of them ably converted by Henshaw.

Twelve points to nil adrift at half time, this plucky Limerick league side threw everything at Buccs but to no avail.

For a full ten minutes of the second half Buccs stoutly defended their own line to keep a clean sheet while hooker Kelly stole in for a breakthrough try as did wing forward Lynch. Man of the match Hyland seemed to turn up everywhere at the right time and was effective in defence and attack alike well supported by Dooley.

Best of the backs were Conroy in the centre, Digby, Corbett and Henshaw while in the pack noteworthy were Kelly, Donoghue and Dooley.

The whole squad is needed again this Friday night at 7pm sharp before hosting the big match against Sligo on Sunday.
