Marist students celebrate 125 milestone with rugby blitz

On Monday the 19th of October, it was the turn of the students to mark the 125th Anniversary of the Marist Brothers in Athlone.

The Marist's sister college, Marian College from Ballsbridge, provided the opposition for a great day of rugby at Dubarry Park, Athlone.

In all over 180 Marist students played five games at senior, junior and first year level with the Marist Athlone boys remaining undefeated. But the day was about more than the games, as explained by Mick Loftus of Marist College.

"To mark the significance of the 125 years, we wanted to create links with other Marist colleges, and we received great wishes of support from Marist colleges from New Zealand to South Africa and all over the world. A number of months ago, we extended an invitation to our fellow Marist college in Dublin and they were delighted to accept and be part of the day," said Mick.

Refreshments and presentations followed in the Bounty after the games and a great day's sport was had by one and all.
