Reserves Lose Again

Buccaneers Reserves now wallow in dire straits following another Connacht Junior League defeat, this time a 31-7 drubbing away to Ballina Firsts at Heffernan Park on Sunday. On paper, Buccs had a decent enough side in the north-west where conditions were unexpectedly good on a mainly dry afternoon. But a lack of unity and organisation continues to undermine this squad who should be capable of getting better results than to date. Buccs pack was their strongest unit but the Ballina backline was much sharper and more cohesive and the Mayo side proved clear-cut winners in the end despite Ian Kilbride"s try converted by Sean Brady. Kilbride and Patrick Murphy offered most resistance in the midlanders backline while Colin Watters, James Tormey and Sean Stapleton never gave up in the forwards battle. But relegation seems to be staring this outfit in the face unless they quickly get their act together to turn their fortunes around. Attitude, application and availability needs to improve promptly if Buccaneers are to rescue what looks a despairing situation at this early stage of the campaign. BUCCANEERS: I. Kilbride; P. Murphy, S. Brady, M. McGerr, R. Grenham; C. Worley, A. Cloonan; M. Diffley, S. Stapleton, G. McGill; J. Tormey, B. McManus; C. Watters, P. Burke and D. Byrne. Replacements:- C. McManus (for B.McManus), C. Greene (for Grenham) and A. Hughes (for Diffley).
