AIT Lions Women"s Rugby

Athlone IT Lions women"s rugby team travelled to Galway to take on NUIG in the Connaught Development League recently. This was a well contested encounter in which the Galway outfit came out on top. NUIG were the more experienced and aggressive team. AIT found it very hard to hold onto the ball when they had it and were knocked backwards in the tackle each time. They were lead very well, as usual, by their captain, Claire Moore, who was supported by dynamic displays from scrum-half Marie Flynn, centre Rosie Hogan and wingers Aisling Monaghan and Avril Orme. The forwards battled well, none more so than Vanessa McDonald, Tracy Keenan and Amanda Scally. There was also an admirable display from Janice McHugh who was playing her first ever game of rugby. AIT has games coming up against an American touring team, Waterford IT, Tralee IT and Dublin City University in the coming weeks. Training takes place on Monday evenings at 5.30 on the all-weather pitch in the College.
