Martin delights in success of former work colleague Shane Lowry

WELL known local businessman Niall Martin has publicly declared his delight at seeing former Martin"s Golf employee Shane Lowry claim victory in the recent 2009 Irish Open. The 22-year-old Clara native stunned many people in the world of golf by capturing the coveted Irish Open title and worked for a couple of years at Niall Martin"s golf store at Inis Oir, Golden Island, Athlone. Speaking about Shane, Niall Martin said: 'Shane was always an absolute gentleman when he worked here and was very obliging. He"s very strong-minded and level headed. I always felt it was a matter of time before he made a big breakthrough and everyone at Martin"s Golf was delighted to see his success at the Irish Open.' 'He has always worked very hard on his game both on and off the golf course and deserves every success that comes his way. On behalf of Martins Golf, I would like to congratulate Shane on his success at the Irish Open and on turning professional, and also wish him the very best of luck in the future.' Niall visited Esker Hills Golf Club last Saturday for Shane"s emotional homecoming. He is also planning to invite Shane to his store in Athlone in the future whenever Lowry"s current hectic schedule relaxes somewhat. Shane Lowry is the son of 1982 Offaly All-Ireland medal winner Brendan Lowry, who has also managed Westmeath"s senior Gaelic football in the past. The Lowry"s are also a hugely respected and famous GAA family in Offaly and Shane"s success has further boosted the sporting tradition in the Lowry household. Shane"s uncle, Tom Lowry, is also the well known Deputy Principal at Moate Community School, and Shane recently visited the school as well. The successful young Irish golfer is also a former student at Athlone Institute of Technology.
