Moate driver seriously injured

A lorry driver from Moate sustained serious injuries in a crash in Clare last weekend. Kit Geoghegan, a member of a well-known local family which has owned and operated the Moate Motors business for many years, is currently recovering in hospital Gardai in Ennis received a call notifying them of the single-vehicle accident at 5.20am on Saturday. Sergeant Joe Donoghue of Ennis Garda Station stated that an articulated truck overturned on its left hand side and skidded for 200 yards before crashing through a stone wall on the N18 Galway to Ennis road. The accident occurred between Gort and Ennis just inside the Co. Clare border. Mr Geoghegan was rushed to University College Hospital in Galway, where he remained in intensive care over the weekend. Srg. Donoghue stated that Mr Geoghegan sustained two broken legs along with several ancillary injuries. His condition was initially described as 'critical' but was understood to have stabilised by Monday. A crane was used to help remove the truck from the scene following the crash. Gardai at Ennis have appealed for witnesses to the accident to come forward with information.
