Four Westmeath teams still standing in Leinster Colleges championship

Local teams Marist College and Moate Community School are currently preparing for Leinster Colleges SF 'A' championship round two fixtures. Moate CS booked their place in the second round with a narrow win over Scoil Dara, Kilcock, last Thursday, while the Marist College were given a bye into the second round. Athlone CC had already secured their place in round two with a victory over St Mel's before Christmas, but they have been knocked out by St Peter's, Wexford on a 12 to 0-7 scoreline. That second round clash was played in Carlow on Thursday, January 20. Moate CS will have home advantage against Salesian, Celbridge, on Friday (1pm). The Marist College's clash with Coláiste Íosagáin, Portarlington, is set to take place at Portarlington next Monday, January 24. In addition to Moate CS and Marist College, two other Westmeath teams remain in contention in this prestigious competition - St Joseph's, Rochfortbridge and Coláiste Mhuire, Mullingar. St Joseph's defeated Franciscan College, Gormanston, by 3-15 to 2-15 (aet) in a thrilling clash last Wednesday, while Coláiste Mhuire overcame St Benildus College (Dublin) on a 1-10 to 1-8 scoreline.
