Stephen Mitchell puts the finising touches to the exhibition 'Wildlife on our Doorstep' by local photograper Ann Hennessy at Glasson Craft Gallery. The exhibition runs from today (Wednesday) until Christmas.

Local photographer to hold Glasson exhibition

Local photographer Ann Hennessy is holding an exhibition of her photographs at Glasson Craft Gallery from today (Wednesday) until Christmas. Entitled 'Wildlife on our Doorstep', the exhibition features photographs of wildlife and landscapes from the Glasson and Athlone areas and is drawn from Ann's vast collection of photographs. This is the second exhibition to be held at Glasson Craft Gallery since it opened its doors in September, with the first exhibition displaying art by local children. Proprietor Stephen Mitchell told the Westmeath Independent this week that there is a dedicated space in the shop where photos and paintings by local people can be displayed and he hopes to feature a different artist or photographer's work each month. Glasson Craft Gallery supports local artists and craftspeople, with works from a number of local people available at the shop, located next to Grogan's on the main street of the village. "It's mainly people from Westmeath and Offaly with the furthest away being Limerick and the nearest supplier being Grogan's," he said. Explaining that he is happy that the shop is hosting Ann's first exhibition, he said: "It's all very local and they are things we don't see, you need a photographer to record it. We don't realise that we live in such a nice environment." And while the photos are currently being displayed as part of an exhibition, all of the prints are available to buy and can be ordered in various sizes. As Stephen also operates a framing service at the shop frames of different sizes and colours can be made for the photographs. Speaking about the exhibition, Ann Hennessy said: "All of the photos have been taken in the area and focus on landscape and wildlife. "I'd like to thank Stephen for giving me the space to hold the exhibition and also for persuading me to hold it, as this is my first exhibition." Ann's photos can be seen at Glasson Craft Gallery from today, Wednesday, during its opening hours of 10am to 6pm from Monday to Saturday and from 2pm to 6pm on Sundays until Christmas.
