Mayor supports gay marriage

Mayor Jim Henson (Lab) has said this week he would be in favour of gay people having equal rights when it comes to marriage. The new mayor took a similar line to his party leader Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore who came out is support of gay marriage this week. When contacted for comment today, Mayor Henson said: "I would be in favour of giving people equal treatment regardless of what section of society they are from." He added that gay marriage had become a civil rights issue and said: "Who am I to judge what an adult can and can't do? If it gives them more legal protection who am I to say no?" "I am in favour of giving equal rights to all people," he said, adding that gay marriage was an issue that has to be dealt with. What are your views on gay marriage? If it came down to a vote, what way would you vote?
