McCormack in for Dolan as O'Sullivan misses out for Kerry

By Kieran Galvin Maryland's Callum McCormack has been handed a starting place on the Westmeath team in place of the suspended James Dolan for Sunday's eagerly awaited All-Ireland SFC Qualifier against Kerry at Cusack Park. McCormack made a sensational impact when introduced as a half-time substitute in the last round against Louth, scoring 1-3 from play with his goal sealing an unconvincing victory. Dolan is ruled after he accepted a four-week suspension arising out of a match involving the Garrycastle minor team which he attended. The talented Garrycastle player was reported for using verbal abuse during the game by referee Barry Kelly. McCormack's inclusion is the only change from the Westmeath team which struggled to get past a 13-man Louth team the last day. Louth played the entire second half with 13 men but they drew level inside the last 10 minutes, before McCormack's goal paved the way for an eventual 1-15 to 0-12 win. First choice full-back Kieran Gavin is not even listed among the subs, but it's likely the Westmeath management team will be be monitoring his quad muscle injury closely in the build-up to Sunday's game. Gavin was not named on team for the Louth match but, before the throw-in, it was announced he would start. However, when the Mullingar Shamrocks player went out on to the field for the warm-up, it became apparent that the injury hadn't cleared up sufficiently. Therefore Mark McCallon was drafted in as a replacement and the Garrycastle player has retained his place. Michael Ennis has again been named at centre half-back but he's expected to continue his roving role, with listed No. 15 Paul Sharry operating in the centre of the defence. Meanwhile, Colm Cooper has been selected at full-forward on the Kerry team for Sunday's trip to Mullingar (throw-in 3pm). 'Gooch' moves from his usual right corner-forward position to fill the No. 14 jersey. Kieran Donaghy has been named at left corner-forward but is expected to operate around midfield. The Austin Stacks player has been an hugely influential figure for Kerry since he was moved to the edge of the square during the 2006 season, although he started last year's All-Ireland final at wing-forward. James O'Donoghue is the other member of the listed full-forward line, and he is one of four changes from the team which lost to Cork in the Munster semi-final last month. Darran O'Sullivan - a nephew of Athlone GAA stalwart Denis O'Sullivan - misses out on a starting place, having been suffering with a hamstring injury. Donnchadh Walsh has been called up as his replacement but O'Sullivan, the last man to captain Kerry to the All-Ireland title, is among the substitutes. The other changes see Brian Maguire replace Peter Crowley at half-back, and the fit-again Bryan Sheehan return to midfield in place of Seamus Scanlon. Marc and Tomas O Se - nephews of Kerry football legend and former Westmeath manager Paidi O Se - are listed to start on the right flank of the Kingdom defence. Westmeath SFC v Kerry: 1.
