HSA to investigate Penneys incident

The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) plans to examine the circumstances behind an incident in which part of the ceiling of Penneys in Athlone is understood to have collapsed last week. There were no injuries as a result of the incident at the Golden Island store on Wednesday, August 29, and neither the Gardai or the fire service was called to the scene. A hole in the ceiling near the escalators on the store's ground floor has been covered up. A spokesperson for the HSA said this week that the authority was aware of the incident and would be examining the circumstances that caused it. A manager of the Athlone store referred a query from the Westmeath Independent to the company's head office in Dublin on Tuesday. Subsequent calls and messages to the head office were not returned.
