€190k funding award for Monksland pitch

A Government grant of €190,000 has been awarded for the development of a new astro turf pitch to serve the local community in Monksland and Bealnamulla. The Department of the Environment sanctioned the allocation of €190,669.80 in LEADER rural development funding by Roscommon LEADER Partnership to Monksland Community Ltd for the construction of a multipurpose community astro turf pitch at Cushla, Monksland. The project is expected to cost €254,000 in total. Local TD Denis Naughten issued a statement welcoming the funding allocation. "This project which was spearheaded by Turlough Egan and a very active local committee has been successful in securing a commitment of funding under the rural development programme to allow the project to proceed," said Deputy Naughten. "Credit is also due to the local board members and staff of LEADER who assisted the project through a very complex application process." * For more on this story, see tomorrow's edition of the Westmeath Independent.
