New soup kitchen opens today

A new soup kitchen opens its doors in Athlone today. The brainchild of Athenry man Oliver Williams, Twist Soup Kitchen, officially opens at 12pm today in Sean Costello Street, just doors from local TD Nicky McFadden's constituency office. The soup kitchen will offer free hot meals to those in need from 10am to 4pm six days a week. A similar kitchen opened by Mr Williams at The Docks in Galway earlier this year, feeds around 85 people a day. The Galway native, who used a similar service while he was homeless in London in the 1980s, earlier said he was overwhelmed with the response and offers of help for the Athlone service since last month.
