Witnesses sought to armed robbery at Athlone off licence

Gardai in Athlone are looking for witnesses to an armed robbery at a local off-licence this week. The incident happened last evening (Monday), November 12 at 6.15pm, when a lone male entered Mac's Off-Licence in the Auburn Centre on the Dublin Road, close to Athlone IT carrying a knife. He demanded money from a female shop assistant working in the shop at the time before escaping on foot with a small amount of cash. The culprit is described as wearing blue jeans, a black hoodie, white runners, baseball cap and gloves. Anyone who was in the vicinity of the off-licence on the Dublin Road around 6.15pm last Monday, and noticed anything suspicious, or saw the man leaving the scene afterwards is asked to contact Athlone gardai in confidence 090 6492609.
