Information evening about going to college to take place at AIT

An information evening about going to college will be held at Athlone Institute of Technology (AIT) at 7pm this Thursday, 29 November. The event, which is organised by AIT and the Institute of Guidance Counsellors, is intended for parents/guardians of secondary school students, as well as prospective mature students. It will provide practical, valuable advice from education and career guidance professionals on applying to college. A series of talks will focus on issues such as the importance of researching courses being applied for, the CAO process, how to apply as a FETAC or mature student, the DARE and HEAR schemes, supports available at third level, as well as fees and grants, and the SUSI grant process. Academic Registrar at AIT, Dr Joseph Ryan, said that the evening "is intended as a resource and support for those interested in applying to third level, as well as their families. The transition to third level education is sometimes fraught with uncertainty; we hope to provide people with signposts to best navigate that journey. Our focus is on giving people practical information that will prove useful to them in completing their CAO application." In addition to the various presentations, there will be a question and answer session, as well as an opportunity to engage directly with speakers and a variety of experts.
