Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe

Book of condolence opened at Athlone Garda Station

Several Athlone-based members of An Garda Siochana will travel to attend the funeral of Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe in Louth on Wednesday. A book of condolence has also been opened at Athlone Garda Station in memory of Det Garda Donohoe, a father of three who was shot dead during the course of an attempted armed robbery in Dundalk last Friday night. Sergeant John Lawless said all were welcome to come in and sign the book of condolence, which was put in place at the station on Monday. He described the killing as "awful" incident, and said it was hard to believe something like this could happen to a Garda who was carrying out his duties. Members of the force from various parts of the country have offered to help with investigation into Det Garda Donohoe's killing, and Sergeant Lawless said Gardai in Athlone would help in any way they could. "If there is any assistance required with this investigation, we will provide it," he said.
