Impressive win for Ward in London

Moate boxer Joe Ward continued his impressive recent form by comfortably outpointing Ukraine’s Denys Solonenko in front of a packed house at London’s York Hall last Friday night.

This win, in the World Series of Boxing (WSB), came exactly a week after he dominated Kenneth Egan to claim his third national senior title in Dublin.

Friday’s victory was Ward’s fourth in five outings in the WSB, which involves amateur boxers fighting five-round contests without vests or headguards.

Speaking afterwards, the local teenager said: “I knew he was going to be very tough. He’s very physical and had great movement, but I knew with my speed, technique and movement I’d make it very hard for him.”
