Athlone Town youths have a very important fixture in the DDSL U17 Major Division 1 tonight at Lissywollen.

Athlone Town youths to bid for valuable three points

ATHLONE Town’s youth team will be hoping to take a significant step towards winning the DDSL U17 Major Division 1 tonight by beating fellow title candidates Stella Maris at Lissywollen (kick-off: 8pm).

Athlone, managed by Mick Dolan, have shown very good form this season and have won ten of their 15 league games to date. They currently top the league table and have five games remaining.

Tonight’s fixture carries extra significance considering that Stella Maris are currently second in the table with a point less than Athlone (but with two games more played).

Athlone’s most recent outing was a 1-0 win against Dunboyne and their next fixture (after tonight) is due to be against struggling Cabinteely.

Third placed Liffey Valley Rangers - currently two points adrift of Athlone with a game more played - could be the team to watch as Athlone bid for title success, as they have been hugely impressive in recent weeks, scoring 26 goals and conceding just three times in their last five matches (which included a 5-0 hammering of Stella Maris).
