Athlone Town's FAI Cup dreams are over for another year. The club last won the famous competition in 1924.

Athlone Town crash out of FAI Cup

Athlone Town suffered the ignominy of crashing out of this year's FAI Ford Senior Cup when losing to Leinster Senior League side Bluebell Utd in last night's second round replay at Lissywollen.

Despite playing poorly in the first half, Athlone took the lead through Ian Sweeney just after the half hour mark. Former Athlone striker Trevor Molloy levelled matters on the stroke of half-time and then put Bluebell in front on 57 minutes.

Athlone equalised through substitute Toyeeb Mustapha but Molloy set-up Peter Darcy to score Bluebell's winner in extra-time. Bluebell now progress to the last 16. For full match report see next week's Westmeath Independent.
