Countdown continues to triAthlone 2013!

The countdown to the triAthlone is well underway with just over a week to go until the popular annual event takes place.

This year's event will take place over two days - Saturday July 6 for the Irish Sprint & Paratriathlon Championships plus a new SuperSprint race; and Sunday July 7 for the Athlone ETU Junior European Cup 2013.

To celebrate Athlone’s status as European Town of Sport 2013, the triAthlone organising committee is delighted to host the return of Elite Triathlon racing to the town this year.

A media launch of this year's event will take place in the Sheraton Hotel, Athlone, on Sunday. At this launch the committee will be joined by Triathlon Ireland, members of the Elite Junior High-Performance Squad, Waterways Ireland, members of Athlone Town Council and sponsors.

'It's been another exciting year of preparation ahead of Waterways Ireland triAthlone 2013, and we are delighted to host another fast growing Irish Paratriathlon Championships, as well as the Irish Sprint Distance Championships alongside our regular events,' said organiser Liam Heavin.

'For those of you that don't know, we are bringing Elite triathlon back to the streets of Athlone as we host the Athlone ETU European Junior Cup 2013; which will see a strong Irish team led by last year's Junior World Championship Bronze Medalist, Con Doherty.'
