Niall Daly will be looking to inspire Padraig Pearses in tonight's match against St Faithleach's.

Big weekend in local Gaelic football scene

A big weekend in local Gaelic football kicks-off tonight (Friday) when Padraig Pearses face St Faithleach’s in the Shannonside FM Roscommon SFC at Ballyforan (8.30pm).

Aidan Fallon’s Pearses side need a win tonight after losing their opening fixture against Clann na nGael. A defeat tonight would leave last year’s championship runners-up in great danger of missing out on the knockout phase this year.

Meanwhile, there is also much to whet the appetite in this weekend’s serving of matches in both the Westmeath Senior and Intermediate Championships.

On Saturday in Section A of the SFC, a double-header takes place at Cusack Park, Mullingar with Castletown/Finea Coole-Whitehall facing The Downs at 5.30pm before in Section B, Garrycastle bid to bounce back from a heavy loss to St Loman’s when they face Tyrellspass at 7pm.

In the Intermediate Championship on Saturday, Ballymore play St Malachy’s at Rosemount at 5.30pm, while Tubberclair take on Kilbeggan Shamrocks at 7pm in the same venue (both are Section A games). In Section B, Tang come up against Ballinagore at 5.30pm in Moate.

There are plenty of matches down for decision on Sunday too, with a double-header taking centre stage at Cusack Park, Mullingar. From 5pm, Ballynacargy will take on Shandonagh in the Section of the IFC before Athlone challenge Mullingar Shamrocks at the same venue at 6.30pm.

Staying in Section A of the SFC, Maryland play Bunbrosna at 6.30pm in Ballymore on Sunday. In Section B of the SFC, St Loman’s will look to continue their impressive championship form when they come up against Killucan at The Downs (2.30pm).

In Section B of the IFC, Caulry play Rosemount at Ballymore (5pm) with Milltownpass playing St Mary’s, Rochfortbridge from 1pm in Milltownpass.

Moate All-Whites are also in action this weekend in the latest round of fixtures in the Westmeath Junior Football Championships. Their meeting with Ballycomoyle takes place at Springfield, Mullingar from 12noon.
