Westmeath and Offaly U16s face return to Longford for replay

The Fr Manning Cup final replay between the U-16 footballers of Westmeath and Offaly will take place on Friday week, August 23, at Pearse Park, Longford (throw-in: 7pm).

Westmeath fought back from a 0-3 to 0-7 half-time deficit in the drawn final at the same venue last Wednesday. The maroon and whites actually edged one point ahead near the finish, but Ryan Heavin earned Offaly a replay with a late equaliser. Final score: 0-11 each.

The Westmeath U16s won the Gerry Reilly Tournament Shield by beating Wicklow in Oldcastle last weekend (4-8 to 3-5).

Enda Monaghan's charges will now be hopeful of claiming another piece of silverware on August 23. But in order to do so, they will need to produce a more even performance of the entire 60 plus minutes.

Gerard Carberry (Longford) has been named as referee for the replay at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park.
