TG4 To Showcase Athlone Talent

The third series of TG4’s An Samhradh Linn continues on Thursday, August 29, when the programme comes to Westmeath for the first time, and host Síle Ní Bhraonáin brings us the finest traditional music, undiscovered talent and local cuisine - all highlighting the myriad of exciting options available to those of us who will holiday at home this year.

Síle is in Seán’s Bar in Athlone, where renowned local musicians Alison Henshaw, Neil Fitzgibbon and Niamh Brett entertain us with the best of traditional Irish music. All-Ireland Fleadh Champion and banjo player, Ben Keary, who is almost 12, plays, accompanied by Jacqui O’Meara on guitar.
Celebrated local singer Pádraic Keena delights with a song, and yet another All-Ireland Fleadh champion, Sharleen McCaffrey, performs a sean-nós dance.

Síle also drops in on Coffee Haven, in Athlone, where Damian Moran shows us how to prepare their delicious TG4 Haven Special Panini. An Samhradh Linn also visits the Irish summer college Coláiste na bhFiann in Meath, where we look at some of the many activities enjoyed by students.
Thugamar Féin an Samhradh Linn is the Irish song which gives this TG4 programme its name.

Síle Ní Bhraonáin and all the crew look forward to once again bringing the summer to you!
You can see An Samhradh Linn on TG4 on Thursday August 29 at 8.30pm, and online at www.tg4.ie.
