Seanad Eireann

Over 100,000 in Westmeath and Roscommon can vote on Seanad's future

Over 100,000 people in Westmeath and Roscommon are eligible to cast a vote on the future of the Seanad in tomorrow's referendum.

In the Westmeath section of the Longford/Westmeath constituency, the total electorate (including those on the supplementary register) is 57,830.

In county Roscommon, meanwhile, a total of 45,821 people can cast their vote.

In addition to being asked if they agree to the abolition of the Seanad, voters will also be asked if they agree to the establishment of a new Court of Appeal.

Fine Gael, Labour and Sinn Fein are asking people to vote 'yes' in the Seanad referendum, while Fianna Fail and the Green party are advocating a 'no' vote.

All of the main parties are supporting the establishment of a Court of Appeal.
