€240,000 worth of cannabis seized at local growhouse

Cannabis plants worth €240,000 were seized in Oldtown, Athlone, today as part of a Garda operation that saw over €2m worth of cannabis plants seized at three locations across the country today.
A house at Falty, Oldtown, was searched by members of the Roscommon/Longford Drug Unit with the assistance of members of the Garda National Drugs Unit. The hosue was converted for use as a cannabis growhouse.
A Chinese man in his late 20s was arrested and is currently detained at Roscommon Garda Station under Section 2 Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996. Gardai said the total value of the drugs seized at this location (subject to analysis) was €240,000.
Separately Gardai seized cannabis plants ot the value of €1.3m at an industrial unit in Tralee, Co. Kerry, and €560,000 worth of cannabis plants at a house and sheds at Carrigaloon, Virginia, Co. Cavan.
