Success for Athlone and Castletown-Geoghegan

ATHLONE GAA Club is celebrating after a fantastic victory in the weekend’s Westmeath U21 football Championship final against St Loman’s, Mullingar.

The Mullingar outfit, whose senior team had lifted the Flanagan Cup a week earlier, were red hot favourites going into the final but a great performance by Fergal O’Toole’s young players saw them lift the silverware. A goal by substitute Conall Sheeran proved the decisive score in the end.

Meanwhile, Castletown-Geoghegan continued a rich vein of success for their area with victory in the Westmeath Senior Hurling Championship final against St Oliver Plunkett’s. For more on these matches and much more sport, see Wednesday’s edition of the Westmeath Independent.
