€5k worth of drugs seized in raid on Athlone house

Heroin and cannabis thought to be worth over €5,000 was seized in a Garda raid on a house in Athlone this morning (Wednesday).

The drugs seizure, from a house in Cherryfield Avenue, was part of an ongoing operation targeting the sale and supply of drugs in the Athlone area.

The Garda press office said local Gardaí, accompanied by members of the Regional Support Unit, uncovered a quantity of heroin, cannabis resin and cannabis herb at the house.

The seizure was made at approximately 10.15am this morning.

It involved heroin with an estimated street value of €3,150, cannabis resin with an estimated street value of €1,500, and cannabis herb with an estimated street value of €640.

Mobile phones, weighing scales, and a quantity of cash were also seized.

One male, aged 34, has been arrested and, as of this afternoon, he was being detained at Athlone Garda Station under section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.
